HOOK HANDMADE

CUSTOM  STAINED  GLASS

SHIPPING

Glass is a fragile material, and major shipping carriers will not insure stained glass for the value of the work.  Although I can't guarantee the work against damage incurred after the work leaves the studio, I do as much as I can to get it to you safely.  This is an overview of the method used to crate each piece to protect it from damage, and it has proved to be successful.

1.  The piece is first wrapped in a continuous sheet of foam to protect it from scratches and provide the first layer of cushioning.

2.  1/2" thick heavy duty cardboard is used to firmly sandwich both sides of the glass inside frame, which prevent the glass panel from flexing.

3.  A second layer of 1/2" heavy duty cardboard is wrapped around the entire piece.

4.  The cardboard is taped closed and wrapped tightly with stretch wrap to ensure the cardboard remains firmly against the glass, and there is no room for the glass to move or flex.

5.  A wood crate is built using 1/2" thick OSB and solid pine sides.  The bottom of the crate is lined with convoluted foam to cushion the piece within the crate.

6.  The cardboard package is placed in the crate, and cushioned on all four sides with two layers of convoluted foam.  An information sheet and any hardware is placed on top or to the side.

7.  Another layer of convoluted foam is placed on top of the piece.  Any additional space is filled with another sheet of thick cardboard.

8.  A 1/2" thick piece of OSB is placed on top, and secured with screws.  "Fragile Glass" stickers are adhered to all six sides.  "Do Not Lay Flat" stickers are adhered to discourage carriers from stacking other packages on top.
